Hi Pozziepinoy.
I have a question. Does the HIV spread fast in the body eventhough the person is an athlete and has a good immune system? In just 3 months, will a person be able to know his/her HIV status even if he/she got the virus from any of the ways of getting it? Will the result be conclusive then if the result is negative? I already got tested and do I need to take the test again? It has been six months since my last exposure to HIV.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE
Hi XXX.
Thank you for your email.
Let me answer your questions in the order that you asked them.
First HIV is one of the slower viruses ever known, that is why it takes time for the HIV antibodies to be detected. The window period is usually 3 months but even the best HIV doctors here in the country say that you can still get tested 6 months post exposure just to be sure. Anyway, this is a win-win situation so if you got tested during the window period, you can still take the HIV test outside the window period if you want to. Like what I said it is a choice that you have to make and no matter what, it is your health and do so, by being proactive about it takes a lot of guts.
Second, In any kind of exposure, the replication is the same so it doesn't matter how you got it but once you think you have been exposed, just take the test.
Third, if the result turned out to be negative, during the window period, then take it again. Like what I said, if you want to take it again after the window period then do it. My partner Tag, makes it a point to take the test every year as part of his annual medical check up and I tell all my friends to do the same. Like what I said, this is a win-win situation.
I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.
Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
