Hi.

Thanks and I found your blog. It has somehow helped me a lot.

I would like to ask how long before HIV will be a full blown AIDS? Or if you just acquired HIV, would it be years  or months before it becomes full blown?

I hope you will be able to help me because I am so scared right now. I don't know who to turn to because I am here abroad for work. That is why I am so scared!!

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi there.

Thank your for your email. Thank you for sharing your concern to me and my readers.

HIV attacks the immune system. The rate of which the immune system falls to dangerous levels which will lead to AIDS based on the CD4 count and the presence of AIDS related opportunistic infections is multi factorial. A few cases, in one year it becomes full blown but majority of the cases in 5 or more years.

The key is monitoring how the CD4 count falls that is why once a person has HIV, there should be frequent, every 6 month testing of CD4. Of course as the CD4 count goes down, the PLHIV is susceptible to opportunistic infections which becomes a viscious cycle as infections can trigger the replication of HIV.

If I were you, if you are HIV positive, monitor your CD4 frequently and try to stay healthy, avoid getting sick, have a regular exercise routine, sleep right and eat healthy. If you are already on ARV's, then just follow what  the doctor tells you to do.

Helping your body to be strong is a PLHIV's responsible in order for the immune system to stay strong and not fall down to AIDS level.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
