Email 431: HIV Test Waiting Period

Hi Pozziepinoy,

I would just like to ask if how long you will be waiting to take the HIV test?...I feel like i'm being exposed and done risky things that i should have not done. The fear is killing me.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi there.

Thank you for your email.

With regards to your question, the waiting period for the HIV test depends on where you get it.

1. In RITM Satellite Clinic in Malate, the result of the two tests given comes out in just
2 hours. The result is 99% accurate.
2. In other hospitals. clinic or testing sites, the:
    a. Initial screening or rapid test comes out in a few hours or a day after if it is negative.
    b. If in the initial screening or rapid test, the result is positive, the blood sample will be
subjected to the confirmatory test or Western Blot test in DOH, San Lazaro or RITM.
    c. In Metro Manila and nearby (or big) cities, the result of the confirmatory test comes
        out in 2 weeks
    d. In remote provinces, the result of the confirmatory test may come out in 4 weeks or
        more.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
