Email 456: Interpreting My Blood Work Result

Hello,

Good Day,

Year 2010 when I was about to leave Philippines going to Saudi, I have unsafe sex with the same gender (M2M) that I didn't know who he is, We just meet each other in Manila Mall and then we have one night sex for one time only. I came  in Middle East May 2010. I started to have sex with men (M2M), February 2011 with  different nationalities. To make the story short I was indulging in oral sex maybe 15> men for just of lust.  And 3 men who unsafe sex with me in different time and place. 2 or 3 with safe sex  Now March-April 2013 One of my colleague need blood donor. So I also had the opportunity to donate blood. But then, the result of my blood is:

ASSAY                                      RESULTS                               FLAGS CODE
CORE                                          0.090 S/CO                             I=REACTIVE
AUSAB                                        452.4 mIU/ml                           I=REACTIVE

The Medtech explained that I have exposure of Hepa B before but IT WAS CONQUERED already. "Nothing to worry about" she said.. " But as of this time your antibodies is only 452.4, We need 500 > antibodies to qualified you as a donor." she added. Look for vaccine to increase your antibodies.

Now my questions:

1. As a blood donor the test is complete. I mean all in all, the HIV, Hepa and so on. True or False?
2. What do you mean by AUSAB?
3. Here in Middle east, after the Med tech advice me to find vaccine for additional of my AUSAB, the hospitals that I went through they did not allow me for that vaccine if they don't have basis. What vaccine do I need to qualify as a blood donor.
4. The Med Tech said I am positive of Anti-HBc what do you mean by this?
5. What is the difference between AIDS and HEPA?
6. Is Hepa curable in a short period of time?
7 If you are reactive with Anti-HBc, Is it possible that you have also affected with AIDS?
8.Next year is my end contract, I have a plan to do test, your #  same as you post in your blog. ok

Please enlighten me with this. It makes me scary.

Thank You and God bless.

CONTRIBUTOR’S RESPONSE

Hi.

Thank your for your email.

These are my answers:

1. As a blood donor the test is complete. I mean all in all, the HIV, Hepa and so on. True or False?

I am not very sure about this but based on this data, you were only tested for the presence of Hepatitis B. Normally, you should have been tested for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV and these results should be reflected on your results, otherwise, you need to get tested for HIV and other STI's.

2. What do you mean by AUSAB?

AUSAB is a commercial test used to detect antibodies associated with hepatitis B virus surface antigen (anti-HBs). Antibodies are substances produced by the body to fight against foreign substances called antigens, such as HBV. This test is performed after vaccination against HBV or following an active infection

3. Here in Middle east, after the Med tech advice me to find vaccine for additional of my AUSAB, the hospitals that I went through they did not allow me for that vaccine if they don't have basis. What vaccine do I need to qualify as a blood donor.

If you are positive for Hepatitis B and confirmed that you have on-going infection, then you must seek consult so you can obtain proper treatment or proper monitoring depending on the stage of your infection.
A vaccine is only given if you have not been exposed or negative to Hepatitis B and C but is at risk for these infections such those working in the jobs related to healthcare industry.

4. The Med Tech said I am positive of Anti-HBc what do you mean by this?

It is a test that detects the presence of both IgM and IgG antibody to hepatitis B core antigen
(HBc) and is indicated as an aid in the diagnosis of ongoing or previous hepatitis B viral
infection. It is used as a screening test for blood to prevent the transmission of hepatitis B virus
(HBV). It appears at the onset of symptoms in acute hepatitis B and persists for life.

A positive anti-HBc may indicate one of the following:

1. Past hepatitis B infection.
2. False-positive reaction, meaning it is not a true infection.
3. Possible current latent infection.

The presence of anti-HBc alone is difficult to interpret, as the test often gives a positive reaction
due to factors not associated with hepatitis B infection (false-positive). There is currently no
confirmatory test to determine whether the test result is a true-positive or a false-positive.
Additional testing is performed to detect HBV

5. What is the difference between AIDS and HEPA?

HIV and AIDS is a disease attacking your immune system hence causing you to have progressively weakened immune system and prone to develop all sorts of infection and cancers if no treatment is given.
Hepatitis is a viral infection causing swelling of the liver and depending on the type, may actually cause liver cancer if few cases.

6. Is Hepa curable in a short period of time?

Most hepatitis A & B are self-limited, meaning the body itself will have its way to recover. For hepatitis B and C, there are around 10-15 % of cases where the patient may remain infected and are at risk to develop liver failure and cancer.

7 If you are reactive with Anti-HBc, Is it possible that you have also affected with AIDS?

Its possible but Hepatitis B/C and HIV and AIDS are completely different diseases. They are however both caused by virus and can be transmitted by sexual contact and blood exchange. One does not necessarily lead to another

8. Next year is my end contract, I have a plan to do test, your #  same as you post in your blog. ok

You need to get tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and C if you have exposed your self to such high risk behaviors like unprotected sex, having sex with another man or have other sexually transmitted diseases.
