Email 617: Do I Have HIV?

Hi, guys.

Call me V.

Well, mostly naman diba foreigners meron sakit. Idk, we had unprotected sex last december and on january. Wala naman akong nararamdaman symptoms. Payat pa ko non, then tumaba pa ako.

Then last month, nagclub ako may nakilala akong girl. Eh sakto may singaw ako, college student palang siya. Nag-sogo kami. But i didnt fuck her. Then after a week nagkaroon ako ng sorethroat, at mga kulani. Then i feel fatique. Then binigyan niya ako ng antibiotics, for 10days. Nagimprove naman but still meron pa din ako hanggang ngayon at may mga singaw. May singaw daw ako dahil may brace kasi ako. Then nagask ako kung may hiv ako. Still im curious.

Tingin nyo?

Hi guys,

Call me V. I would like to share my story.

I have a girlfriend who I met in FB. She had sex for 3x already. One of her sex mates was a Persian. Well, mostly foreigners have diseases. Well, we had unprotected sex lat December and in January. I didn’t feel any symptoms. I was thin then , then I got fat.

Then last month I went to a club and I met a girl. At that time I had mouth sore, and she was a college student. We went to Sogo hotel. I didn’t penetrate her because I was scared. But when i finger played her. I touched her private part. But I didn’t fuck her. Then after a week, I had sore throat and inflamed lymph nodes. I also feel fatigued. I was also depressed then that I had HIV. During those times, there was a typhoon and I felt cold. My doctor told me that maybe because of the weather that I had sore throat and inflamed lymph nodes. He prescribed me antibiotics for 10 days. It improved but up to now I still have it and mouth sores. I was told that I have mouth sores because of my braces. The I asked if I have HIV. My doctor said that it is impossible based on my story because most of the time women get sic because they are prone to injuries. Still I’m curious. My doctor said that I should take the test if I want to, but for sure, what will come out will be negative and just don’t be paranoid.

What do you think?

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi V.

Thank you for your email. Thank you for sharing us your concerns.

Let me give you light on some of the misconceptions that you wrote.

First, foreigners don't usually have diseases so we should stop this perception. They are the same as us. Even though most of them are more liberal, there are foreigners who are decent and are healthy, so we should stop judging them. I know some people when they see a couple with a foreigner partner, think that a disease is being passed on to the Filipino partner. Well, how can they be sure that it's not the other way around, right? What I am saying here is that we should stop judging other people based on their ethnicity or race.

Second, a doctor can't just say that you don't have any HIV basing on just your symptoms. You had unprotected sex before and that qualifies you for the HIV test. Period. Always remember that even though your unprotected sex was a long time ago, still it is was risky behaviour. Your doctor was seeing your second experience as your "actual" sexual experience and disregarding the first instance that you had unprotected sex. Also, even though there is a higher risk for women to get HIV during heterosexual encounters, still it poses a risk too for men.

If I were you, don't think anymore and just take the test. It is a win-win situation. If it turns out to be negative, then you'll have your peace of mind. If it turns out to be positive then at least you will know what you are dealing with and you will have control over your life.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
