Hi everyone. I have a question. Was there an instance where after taking the HIV test at 4 weeks, then turned HIV positive at 3 months?
Thank you.
POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE
Hi there.
Thank you for your email.
There are instances that at 3 months, the HIV negative person at 4 weeks post exposure can turn reactive in the HIV test. The reason for this is that HIV antibodies can be produced by the body in reaction to HIV up to 3 months. This is what we call the window period. The HIV test detects the presence of HIV antibodies in the blood and in some persons, the amount of antibodies can't be detected at 4 weeks but at can definitely be detected at 3 months.
I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.
Stay healthy,
