Philippine HIV/AIDS Registry: August 2012

The Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry of the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Epidemiology Center (NEC) has recently posted it's latest HIV and AIDS figures for August 2012 (Please refer to the actual report below).

From the report, 272 new HIV cases were confirmed which is 39% higher compared to the same period last year. 95% of the cases were males and the median age was 28 years. The age group of 20-29  showed the most predominant cases. 51% of the cases came from the National Capital Region (NCR).
253 out of the 272 showed sexual contact as the main mode of transmission, with males having sex with other males comprising 86% of these cases. 

The month of August also showed that out of the 272 cases, 20 were reported as AIDS cases and all were males. One death was reported. 9% of the total cases were overseas Filipino workers (OFW)
