Don't Wait for the Symptoms

I have received a lot of emails asking me if the symptoms they have are HIV related. The email senders will describe what they are feeling and what they observe in their bodies. Most ask for the next step even though the next step is pretty clear and simple.

So what is the best advice that I can give?

Simple.

Don't wait for the symptoms. Act now. You may have been exposed to the virus because you previously had unprotected sex, had needle sharing, etc. You know that the cases of HIV is on the rise in the country so why wait for something to happen. Go to the nearest HIV Testing site and take the test fast.

Don't wait for the symptoms. Be responsible for yourself and to others. If you get tested now while you are not feeling anything yet, treatment is easier and less costly. If you get tested now and you find out your status, then you can help stop the spread of the virus.

Don't wait for the symptoms. While you are still healthy, you can fortify yourself even more by living a healthy lifestyle, by having a regular exercise program and by having enough rest and recreation. By acting now, you can prevent getting sick. By getting tested now and supplementing your knowledge through reading and researching, you can empower yourself and help you fight back the virus.

Timing is very important to PLHIV's. Some detect the virus while it has not done much of damage yet. Others get tested when they already have opportunistic infections.

There is too much at stake if the virus is detected late. It will be costly. The longer the virus stays in the body, the more it can weaken one's immune system which can make the body prone to different infections. These infections can destroy different  body organs which can lead to permanent damage or even death. Treatment is longer and can be financially draining. It can affect work, vocation and one's daily living activities.

So what are you waiting for? If you think you have been exposed to the virus, please don't wait for the symptoms. Go and get tested fast.

Life is precious and every moment counts. Early detection of the virus is the key to a speedy and fast recovery.
