Email 391: About PEP

Hi Pozzie,

I was just wondering if RITM (or any other HIV-related institution) is giving out post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for those who people who might have been exposed to HIV within 72 hours. Is there a way that these institutions could give out PEPs (to arrest the spread of virus)?

Thank you and more power to your blog!

Thanks

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi there.

Thank you for your email.

No HIV/AIDS Treatment hub or any hospital prescribes post exposure prophylaxes (PEP) unless one has been possibly exposed as a result of rape or a medical practitioner has been possibly exposed due to a medical operation. This means that PEP will not be prescribed to any other cases of transmission, i.e., consented sexual transmission, blood exchanges, etc.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
