On Oral Sex and HIV

Hi Pozzie,

Tulungan mo naman ako sa problema ako. Nalaman ko na ang isang friend ko ay nag positive sa HIV. Ito ang buong storya ko . Nuong May 31 2014 una kaming nag sex. I masturbated him again. Dahil sa anxiety problem ko nung sinabi nya na nag positive sya sa HIV nag pa rapid test po ako noong  July 03, 2014. The result is Non Reactive (Thank GOD). Here are my questions.

1.) I know the window period of 3 months, pero gaano na po ba ka accurate ung test na un? Other website says that it can only take 4 to  weeks to show antibodies when tested.

2.) Gaano ka risky ang unprotected oral sex specially that I have my braces on my teeth? I remember may dugo ung ngipin nya nun 2nd time namin nag oral sex. I can also vividly remember na wala akong singaw that time.( Di ako nagka singaw eversince na nilagay ung braces ko)

3.) Naapektuhan po ba un rapid test ko dahil sa may ubo ako that time? I was really depressed for 3 weeks when I found out that he has HIV.

4.) Anong klaseng Rapid test meron po ba ang ginamit sa akin? Is 3rd or 4th gen? Kihunan ako ng dugo and I got the result after 20 to 30 mins.

Thanks in advance!!!

Godbless

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi Reeyan.

Thank you for your email. Thank you for sharing your concerns to us.

Let me answer your questions in the order that you asked them.

1. All the HIV doctors here in the country would ask you to have 3 and 6 months post exposure test for HIV to be sure of your status. Each individual has a different rate of producing the HIv antibody which is the thing that is being detected by the HIV test so it is best to get the test during those two periods.

2. Unprotected oral sex is not high risk for HIV transmission, however it is still a risk, and it becomes higher when the receiver has mouth sores, oral wounds (may be caused by oral orthotic devices such as braces or dentures).

3. Rapid test is not affected by having a cough or cold.

4. Nowadays, the testing facilities use the 4th generation HIV test.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions or please do call our Hotline Numbers below to talk to our counselors.
