Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry: December 2016 Report

The Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry ( HIV/AIDS and ART Registry of the Philippines) for the month of December of the Department of Health - Epidemiology Bureau just came out.

Based on the Registry, there were 750 new HIV cases in December 2016. 96% of the cases were male, more than half belong to the age range of 25-34 year old, and 29% belong to the 15-24 age range. 

The top three regions with the highest cases were: the National Capital Region, Region IVA and Region III.

Sexual contact is the mode of transmission among the cases, followed by needle sharing among drug injecting users. 3 pregnant women were reported to have HIV.

Since 1984, there are 39,622 HIV cases reported,  with 17,940 people on antiretroviral therapy with 1,969 deaths.
