The Foundation, In action in Iloilo City

In February of this year, TRR presented in the Western Visayas AIDS Congress held in Iloilo City. We presented all TRR's programs and even brought the TRR Ceremonial Red Ribbon which is used in all IACM and WAD events.

During our visit to Iloilo, together with a consultant and partner who works for USAID, TRR went and had a courtesy call with Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. He graciously welcomed us. We talked about the HIV situation in Iloilo City, its HIV and AIDS Treatment hub in Western Visayas Medical Center and the support of his administration to the HIV programs in the city. Mayor Mabilog referred us to his CHO for a discussion of TRR's Programs. On that same day, the TRR Team with 2 of our Care Managers who are based in Iloilo City, met the USAID Health and we discussed on how we can implement the TRR programs and about health governance in Iloilo City. Late in the afternoon, we went to the provincial capitol and met another group and talked on how we can push for TRR HIV programs in the whole province of Iloilo including Iloilo City.

TRR, though it is a Care Management Program is now venturing into the scene where it can make a great impact in the country, for the PLHIV community. As of this moment, TRR has been invited to the provincial meetings of Iloilo where our proposals on HIV Programs can be discussed.

The Project Red Ribbon Care Management Program (TRR) has meetings or Support Group Talks (SGT) on a weekly basis in Metro Manila area (soon in other regions in the Philippines). These meetings empower persons living with HIV (PLHIV) about HIV treatment, about ARV management, on PhilHealth process and concerns, on protocols of HIV and AIDS Treatment Hubs, on support systems, on disclosure and HIV in the workplace, etc. These meetings address concerns by participants during the question and answer part of the meeting. We also invite resource persons to talk about specific topics related to HIV.

The TRR Support Group Talks are divided into 3:

1. SGT for New PLHIV Orientation (SGT-NPO).

This SGT provides a venue for group counselling, with setting up expectations on HIV Management, ARV Adherence and Compliance, Understanding PhilHealth's OHAT Package, Monitoring of Side Effects, etc. This is open to all PLHIV's including support system, that is, families and friends.

2. SGT for Couples

This SGT provides a venue for couple counselling, setting up expectations,

3. SGT for Family and Friends

This SGT is made for families and friends of PLHIV to gather around and understand the HIV spectrum and discuss possible ways of strengthening a PLHIV support system.

4. SGT Advanced

In this type of SGT, TRR invites guest speakers and lecturers who will discuss specific HIV related topics. This advanced meeting merges the newly diagnosed PLHIV's who have attended the SGT-NPO and Couples SGT. PLHIV family members and friends, as well as HIv advocates may participate in this meeting.

A New Partner!

Thanks for the time you spent with The Project Red Ribbon, Dr. Mars Custodio, Chairman of Asia and Pacific Islanders Coalition on HIV/AIDS (APICHA), NYC. I am glad that you were able to attend our Outreach Program in RITM-ARG and help us visit our fellow PLHIV's who are confined in the wards. I am also glad that you took time to talk to our brothers and sisters in our TRR Support Group Talk to share with us your wisdom.

Your kind words are very heart-warming:

"I am glad I connected with the group and that they were receptive to our ideas eps. as regards increased HIV testing, taking charge of their treatment program, and ways and means to decrease stigma and discrimination....The Project Red Ribbon will be our main advocacy in Manila.

"I love the group and I am sure it will flourish. I will follow closely from NY and try to help from there."

"Very good group - the Project Red Ribbon. Effective, committed and focused leadership. Needs coordinated support from the 8 or more treatment hubs and the MD's specialising in HIV/AIDS work , the DOH, and UNAIDS."

Do Your Part!

HIV cases in the Philippines is still on the rise and a lot of people need to take the HIV Test and get an early HIV Treatment.

Important FACTS:
1. HIV can be prevented.
2. There are HIV/AIDS Treatment Centers (Hubs) all over the Philippines
3. There are FREE ARV's (HIV Medicines)
4. The HIV doctors in the Philippines are experienced and competent

We can all work together and get the entire nation to work on the issues of HIV and AIDS in the Philippines.

Please help us disseminate the information. Print and hand this leaflet out to friends, family, neighbour, colleagues, companies, schools and organisations. Our HIV hotlines will answer questions about HIV, testing and treatment.

If you want to help save our nation, please do you part and we will do the rest!
