The Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation would like to thank its donors for helping the Foundation to help others. Through your donations to TRR Love Fund, the heart of the Foundation and the channel to which we are able to help the economically challenged PLHIV for their medical needs, we were able to help a total of five hundred and fourty five people living with HIV (PLHIV) from August to December of 2014.

Table 1 shows the TRR Love Fund Breakdown of Assistance. Based from the table, both medicines and laboratory needs received the highest assistance. A total of P101,079.79 was provided assistance. In the full report, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office was able to provide a total of P1,049,900 in only 5 months.

Once again, thank you to all the donors of TRR Love Fund. You are making a big difference in the lives of the PLHIV community. You are indeed saving lives!

An Essay from a Reader: Braving the Journey

..Braving the journey.....

This is the second time I am travelling down south.  The early morning cold caressing my head. I wrapped myself in my jacket as the bus was speeding its way in the expressway. Yesterday had been a roller coaster of emotions, and my cowardice and fear got the better of me. I was actually in the line already, having had secured a number, yet I could not muster enough willpower to approach the nurses.  Defeated and crying, I went home just when the queue started.

Now, I feel isolated despite the big crowd lining up for the start of the releasing of queue numbers. I don't understand how but I just have this haunting feeling that all of us were congregated for the same purpose, gathered by the same affliction.

Time indeed has an eerie way of seemingly stretching its hands to eternity when one is expecting his turn. I was unconsciously fidgeting, patiently waiting for the clock to strike seven. I tried to be occupied by being familiar with my surroundings. All I saw were anxious faces covered with sunglasses and facemasks; a faint attempt for anonymity. I bought mine the previous day, and as I was about to proceed to the billing counter, my hands began to perspire profusely, and I failed to put it on....

Strange, but it seems that I can see right through everyone's facade; those sad but determined eyes hiding behind the darkly tinted glasses, darting furtive glances, those voices; hushed and mumbled. Was it really these people or was I seeing right through my own soul?

TRR New Fansigns

With a vision to be the driving force of health and wellness in the Philippines, TRR continues its awareness campaigns through its Fan Sign Program. Sticking to our message: "Engaging the Youth in Getting to Zero" and "Get to Zero Philippines", the slogans which were broadcasted in the Philippines during the TRR World AIDS Day 2014 held in Quezon City Circle, which was participated in by more than 1,500 people, continued to resonate in different HIV Education and Awareness Talks (HEAT) of TRR.

HIV Education and Awareness Talk in Malabon High School

In March 2015, TRR was invited by Kiwanis of Malabon City to conduct an HIV Education and Awareness Talk (HEAT) in Tugatog National High School. Six hundred graduating high school students attended the seminar. Since the group was so big, it was divided into 2 batches: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The HIV team of 5 people delivered the talk.

The Foundation, In action in Iloilo City

In February of this year, TRR presented in the Western Visayas AIDS Congress held in Iloilo City. We presented all TRR's programs and even brought the TRR Ceremonial Red Ribbon which is used in all IACM and WAD events.

During our visit to Iloilo, together with a consultant and partner who works for USAID, TRR went and had a courtesy call with Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. He graciously welcomed us. We talked about the HIV situation in Iloilo City, its HIV and AIDS Treatment hub in Western Visayas Medical Center and the support of his administration to the HIV programs in the city. Mayor Mabilog referred us to his CHO for a discussion of TRR's Programs. On that same day, the TRR Team with 2 of our Care Managers who are based in Iloilo City, met the USAID Health and we discussed on how we can implement the TRR programs and about health governance in Iloilo City. Late in the afternoon, we went to the provincial capitol and met another group and talked on how we can push for TRR HIV programs in the whole province of Iloilo including Iloilo City.

TRR, though it is a Care Management Program is now venturing into the scene where it can make a great impact in the country, for the PLHIV community. As of this moment, TRR has been invited to the provincial meetings of Iloilo where our proposals on HIV Programs can be discussed.

PhilHealth Packages for PLHIV

For the 2 months, The Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation (TRR) has been spearheading the revisions of the PhilHealth packages both for out-patient (OHAT) and in-patient coverage. For the sake of those who don't know what TRR is all about, the Foundation is geared towards improving the quality of lives of people living with HIV (HIV) and has been a driving force of health and wellness in the PLHIV community in the Philippines.

For the past 4 years since TRR started as an advocacy group and bloomed into a full blooded Foundation, we have been helping our economically challenged PLHIV for their medical needs through the TRR Love Fund and our partner PCSO. When TRR because a Foundation in July 2014, TRR has provided medical assistance worth P101,079.79 and PCSO assistance of P1,049,900. However, TRR found out that we are just addressing the the symptoms and not the root causes of the health care problems here in the country.

PhilHealth caught the attention of TRR and during our meeting with the President and CEO of PhilHealth Atty. Padilla, we discussed on how we can review and make recommendations on how to make the best coverage plan for PLHIV.

3 months have passed and we are now on the verge of finalizing everything after 3 tedious meetings. Trust me, the coverage is expansive and even the Department of Health - National AIDS/STI Prevention and Control Program was so excited about the undertaking. It will address a lot of issues (and concerns, if I may put it) concerning PLHIV. As the president of the TRR Foundation, I want to spill it out right now, however, I can wait for another month until it has been signed by the President of PhilHealth.
