Your life can be saved!

Early HIV testing and early treatment are the keys to saving one’s health and life. Obstacles to these are misinformation about HIV and AIDS, stigma and discrimination issues and lack of information about treatment protocols.

MY PLHIV Journey: This is my story R15-JCM2-ALPHA

This is my Journey as a PLHIV ;)

July 18, 2015. Today I thought I Died.. :( … It was 6 months ago since i was diagnosed with minimal tuberculosis and almost done with the treatment when I caught another disease early july and it was pneumonia… My Infectious Disease doctor advised me to take the test but I always neglected to do so…

July 18,2015, I decided to do that through RITM-Satellite Malate and I was with my friend XXX.. Told her if I got tested positive I’ll accept that… I filled out the necessary form and was having doubts to be tested. When I was about to be called (A number away from the last extract).. (actually I told XXX lets just go home) So the extraction is done, A counselor approached me and orient me about everything and ask us to be back after 2 hours for the results… XXX and I went to McDonalds to eat and told her lets just go home and lets just not get the results..hahaha lol :P

Project Red Ribbon's New Dentist Partner

Hi Pozziepinoy!

I came across your response to Email 311 here and I was wondering if you still have the contact number of the dentist that Dr. Ditangco recommended? I've been looking for an HIV-friendly dentist ever since I got diagnosed, and I've had a hard time looking for one. Hope you can help. Thanks very much, and more power to TRR!

Job in a Call Center?

sir, if im a hiv positive can i still be hired in call center like jp morgan or convergys? thnx for the info

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi sir,

Thank you for your email.

Like what I mentioned before, anyone can work here in the Philippines even if he or she has HIV. This could be any job, not only in call centers. The reason for this is that we have an HIV law to protect applicants and employees. HIV test is not required for pre-employment, thus one with HIV doesn't have to be known to have it. It is the prerogative of the applicant to disclose his or her own status.

Offer A Moment of Silence

For three days now, Project Red Ribbon has been assisting "M", a PLHIV client who was recently been diagnosed with a cyst in the brainstem. He is one of our volunteers in RITM-ARG and had participated in almost all the foundation's event. He informed us that the cyst showed in his MRI test and he had been experiencing headaches. Yesterday our Care Manager Gerald looked for neurosurgeons for him and yesterday he was rushed to the Emergency Room of one of the hospitals in Manila. He was confined late in the afternoon. He is now under the care of our Care Manager Ed who is in-charge of our Manila area clients.

"M" is only one of the clients that the Project Red Ribbon is handling at this moment. To all our readers, the foundation is asking for everyone to offer a moment of silence to all our brothers and sisters who are in the different hospitals suffering from different infections, a moment of silence for a community impacted by HIV.

On RITM-ARG CD4 Test

Hi there,

Good day! First and foremost, I would like to thank Project Red Ribbon in behalf of all the HIV postive here in the Philippines. The devotion you have showed to people living with HIV is unparalleled.

I have been positive since November 2013, since I have received my false positive result. I have officially been diagnosed last February 2014. My treatment hub is at Klinika Bernardo in Cubao QC.  I have been taking my ARVs since then, namely Lamivudine-Zidovudine and Effavirenz. Thank God I have already get used to the effects of Effavirenz. The road wasn't easy, but I have learned to live with this condition and taking things positively.

I Want to Be a Doctor

Good Evening!

I've been reading your blog recently and I really love how detailed and informative it is.

Anyway, I've been searching for answers anywhere and honestly I can't find it. I've been living with HIV for 3 years now and I've been taking ARVs since then and my viral load is still undetectable. I'm currently studying and I'm planning to change path and fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a doctor. I'm just hesitant to pursue it since I'm afraid that my application in medical school would be denied. Some doctors that I've talked to said that medical schools and hospitals would deny my application if they found out, but some say that I can study in a medical school and fulfill my dream even if I have HIV. I won't be doing any invasive procedures in case I become a doctor.

On Confidentiality and Discrimination

Since yesterday, Project Red Ribbon has been dealing with a client whose HIV status had allegedly been disclosed by a government worker of a government agency providing assistance to indigent people living with HIV (PLHIV) to her neighbors. This resulted to our client being evicted from her home because the landlord got scared that his family may contract the disease from our client. This resulted to our intervention and our consultation with a partner organization for legal assistance.

Worried About CMV Retinitis Treatment

Hello.

My name is XXX and I am HIV positive. At first it was hard for me to accept it but with the help of my supportive family I can say that acceptance is the only way through. Life has to move forward. Thank you for gov't assistance and NGOs like yours for advocating awareness about HIV.

Cost of HIV Treatment?

Hi

I want to get direct to the point. I am positive with HIV, i learned it since yesterday from the medical report of the medical clinic here in my host country. I want to be treated. I accepted this battle, as fate of my life. This is no man's choice. No one will be happy to have this. Yes, even I since the moment I received the medical result, all my dreams flash like a light, and then shuttered like a glass. I am working abroad since last August 26 last year. I am too young for this kind of life though because I am just 27 years old. I am too, to young to have this kind of virus. Anyway, now it is here, I have to accept it like a friend and companion. Though non of my relatives and family member knows about this because, I myself just knew it yesterday. I want to know how much is the cost of the medication if there is a free medication given to the Philippines to HIV patient like me who do not have the enough money save to be cured.

Regards,
XXX

Couple more weeks I was back on the hospital bed for pnuemonia. A very uncommon pneumonia for my age says the doctor cause it affected both my lungs. More than a Statement!

Finally. We will have a celebrity who will be a spokesperson for HIV and AIDS here in the Philippines. She is none other than the newly crowned Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach!

Coming Home from the U.S.

Hi Pozzie Pinoy,

I am XXX, 32 years old and I was diagnosed last August 2015 here in the US. Since I am not yet an immigrant, I may need to go home. I am currently on meds now. I am taking Triumeq and antibiotics and I get everything for free including dental and all consultation. Will I get the same treatment and free meds in the Philippines? There's no way that I can stop medication because that would make the meds resistant. Can you give me some guidance on this? I badly need help from somebody who is going through the same situation.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Importance of Early HIV Testing

Like what we discuss in all our HIV Education and Awareness Talks nationwide, we emphasize the importance of early HIV testing, not only among those who are at risk but to every body. We always request everyone to get tested as part of their annual medical exam, to make it a habit so that everyone will relax about the HIV test.

But why is it really important to take the HIV test early on or why do we advocate for a regular HIV testing. Let's talk about some scenarios here.

Aggressive Condom and Lubricant Distribution

With the continued increase in HIV cases in the Philippines, Project Red Ribbon has been aggressively distributing condoms and water-based lubricants to schools, companies, organizations, motels, hair salons, events, MSM clan gatherings and individuals. This program of the Foundation is in partnership with the Department of Health-National AIDS/STI Prevention and Control Program.

In 2015 alone, 235,000 condoms and more than 117,000 water-based lubricants were distributed in our key locations in the National Capital Region, Baguio City, Iloilo City and Bacolod City. These samples were directly handed to students, employees and participants in loot bags, together with our TRR Flyers. Promotion of this FREE sample condoms and water-based lubricants in social media is strong to catch the attention of the at-risk population and the key affected areas. TRR's aggressive distribution has penetrated the gay social media platforms.

From January 1 until this day, TRR has distributed more than 20,000 FREE condoms and more than 10,000 FREE lubricants all over the Philippines. TRR's target goal, aside from the current program, is to distribute in spas, bath houses, more motels and gay bars.
