Email 527: Anxious with the HIV Result

Posted by Pozziepinoy on 6:54 AM
Hi pozzie!

Can you enlighten me on this one?

Nagpatest kasi ako sa RITM 6 weeks after exposure (oral sex exposure lang) and it was non-reactive. Pero ngayon. after 4 months. napansin ko biglang pumapayat ata ako. I do not know if this is stress-induced (lack of sleep, stress) or sa maling test results. I am panicking right now...again.

Na-explain sa akin sa RITM na sa history ko with only 2 sex encounters plus the latest was oral sex and negative naman sa other STDs, wala dapat akong ikaalala. statistically daw, wala pa daw silang naeencounter na nagka-hiv dito sa pilipinas through oral sex lang. pero yun lang talaga yung exposure ko noon. bumabalik nanaman ulit yung takot ko. please help and enlighten me.

thank you.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi there.

Thank you for your email. Thank you for finding the blog.

I am proud of you for taking the HIV test and I do hope that others will do what you did and be proactive with their health.

Oral sex is a very low risk and no risk at all for HIV transmission unless you have mouth sores when you had sex with a person with HIV so believe what your counselor has told you. However, if you are still anxious, you can repeat your HIV test at 12 weeks post exposure to calm down your nerves. It is a win-win situation and you will finally put to rest all your worries about HIV.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
