Hello. I’m Kris. 19 yrs old. I need your help. I’ve been diagnosed with HIV for 8 months now. My family knows about my status although they don’t know that I am having a hard time dealing with it. I’m very depressed to the point that I want to give up. My other problem is that my genital warts are getting worse. I don’t know where to get money to pay for the treatment. My family doesn’t know about my genital warts. I do hope that you can help me. Thank you very much.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi XXX,

First of all, thank you for your question. Thank you for reading the blog.

I am very proud of you for taking the HIV test at an early age. A lot of people won’t even take it and I do hope that your courage to act upon your health will serve as an inspiration to a lot of people.

I am also happy that your family knows about your HIV status. It really takes guts to disclose to one’s family your HIV status.

Regarding your concern, it is ok to be depressed. However, too much depression with ideas of giving up is a thing that we need to address. You need people to talk to. You can go to your treatment hub and tell that to your doctor so that he or she can refer you to a psychiatrist. Issues like this should not be taken for granted. It is important to address this immediately.

Another way to deal with this is by counselling. You may talk to any HIV counselor. You can call the numbers below so you can talk to any of our counsellors. Another way is by attending our support group talk happening every weekend in our TRR care office. Call us for directions and the schedule. Through our SGT, you will hear other people living with HIV as they deal with their condition and treatment. Listening from the experiences of others helps one to deal with his or her situation. Trust me, not only will you be able to apply their experiences to you but also establish friends.

Now with regards to your genital warts, it is best to talk to your parents about it. If treatment fee is still an issue, call the TRR Care Office and we can refer you to agencies that can help you for your treatment. We can have your warts operated on by HIV friendly surgeons.

Your task is very easy now. Call us. Talk to us so that we can reach out and help you with your issues. You are not alone. Project Red Ribbon will be here for you until you become ok again.

I do hope that I was able to answer your concerns. Please feel free to email again if you have other issues.

Goodluck and have a healthy life.
