Email 180: About HIV and Supplements

Hi Pozziepinoy.

Good day to you my BROTHER in CHRIST. I'm positive and got diagnosed last November 26 in one event of the Love Yourself! Right now I'm starting my ARV 14 day trial and it’s my 3rd day. Well I'm happy and healthy ! My CD4 was 241 that’s why I’ve decided to start ARV!  Question, my counselors and even in the Makati Hygiene Clinic says this virus is not now a killer disease and it is not fatal. Just follow and take the meds as prescribed and eat nutritious food and no more alcohol! Second is it ok to take food supplements for good health ?

Thank you.

Email 101: Glutathione and ARV's

Hello friend,

I used to take glutathione to make me healthy and glowing. Since I started taking ARV, I stopped it due to fear of negative reactions. I have read blogs, journals and articles that ARV can be harmful to the liver in the long run. So, I read further on how to take care of the liver. I found out that glutathione in the liver can make it more powerful.

Is is advisable to take glutathione supplements?

Study on High Dose of Vitamin Supplementation

Dr. Ditangco just texted me this:

"Hi Pozziepinoy. You may want to share this information. A recent research published in the Journal of American Medical Association has shown that high dose vitamin supplementation among patients who are taking ARV's has no added benefit compared to standard dose of vitamins and in fact may even be harmful to the liver. The recommendation was to stick with the standard recommended dietary requirement".

Selenium and HIV

I have heard about the supplement selenium a long time ago. I heard it can help in reducing HIV in the bloodstream. I remembered that I asked Dr. Ditangco about it and she said that there are no proven facts about this so I just dropped it. But recently I’ve been receiving emails about it and PLHIV’s want me to discuss about it and its effects on HIV. I researched about it.
