Fate of our OFW's with HIV

Do you know that our overseas Filipino workers (OFW's) working in the Middle East, Singapore and other muslim countries, get accosted and evicted once their employer and/or the government find out that they have HIV?

Do you know that our OFW's are put in jail when the Ministry or Department of Health finds out that they have HIV during the mandatory HIV test in their Annual Physical Examination?

Do you know that our OFW's with HIV are accosted by the police from their place of work directly to the jail without even getting their belongings?

Do you know that  our OFW's with HIV are jailed together with criminals and those with communicable diseases until they get a flight back home in the Philippines, which most of the time they have to pay for?

Do you know that some OFW's who sensed that the Ministry or Department of health of these countries have found out their status, had to leave the countries they work for just to escape the humiliation and discriminative treatment because they have HIV?

Once in a while, Project Red Ribbon gets an email or call from overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who are asking for help, either they want to escape or they are seeking advice on what to do when they come back in the Philippines. Some, when they come back home don't even know what to do because they are the breadwinners of their families and they can't go back home. We had a few who committed suicide because they felt lost and felt ashamed and discriminated.

We have people under our care who told their stories to us. One of the people who we assisted before even was interviewed by the media people.

Up to now this problem is happening. Media is still failing to capture this plight and fate of our OFW's with HIV.
