Volunteers in Action
Posted by Pozziepinoy on 7:05 AM
Project Red Ribbon volunteered at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, AIDS Research Group to conduct HIV screening to their clients.
When called on, we act fast. As needed by the treatment hubs, our volunteers helped in conducting HIV screening to the hub on Monday, January 16. Whats good about this is that after the screening, those who turned out reactive to the screening were immediately given consultation and immediately were referred to undergo the process of treatment.
From the 5 clients that we have screened 3, turned out to be positive. All of them were given condoms and all were given consultation. The Foundation also referred them to our Care Coordinator for them to talk to. One client had with him his family and the family was happy that they have someone who they can call and talk to.
What is HIV Screening?
HIV Screening is now being offered by the Department of Health to fast track the HIV Test. The screening is a rapid test, the result of which comes after 10 minutes. The HIV Screening has no pre- and post counseling in contrast with the actual HIV test as required by the law. What the DOH requests the HIV screening program is to make sure that those who turned reactive should be immediately referred to the treatment hubs for immediate consultation.
