The Miss AIDS Advocate is not just a beauty and brains pageant. Instead the crown is bestowed to an individual belonging to an LGBTQIA and HIV organization who has a mission to be a National HIV and AIDS Ambassador.
The 1st Miss AIDS Advocate 2017 of Project Red Ribbon in partnership with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine-AIDS Research Group and the Department of Health - National AIDS/STI Prevention and Control Program, was held as part of the World AIDS Day 2016 and was held in the Convention Hall of the Ramada Hotel Manila. Nine different LGBTQIA and HIV Organizations joined the event. Ms. Anita Barretto, a 19 years old lass and a Trippers Philippines Advocate won the crown.
The Annual Pageant would like to bridge all LGBTQIA and HIV Organizations by engaging them with all the National HIV Programs. Miss Barretto, as Miss AIDS Advocate 2017 will be visiting LGBTQIA organizations nationwide to encourage them to have HIV Programs so that they can join the yearly event. Organizations that are willing to join but don't have any HIV Program, will be assisted and trained by Project Red Ribbon. Miss Barretto will be in HIV Information, Education and Campaign Materials to promote the HIV Programs and spread messages across the country.
Miss AIDS Advocate 2018 will receive nominations starting September 2017. Watch out for further announcements.
