Hi. I would like to ask how long after inception can HIV be detected in the health centre? Is it possible after 2 weeks only? Thank you.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Thank you for your email.

The window period for HIV antibodies to be formed is up to 3 months post exposure. This means that anytime, it is possible that it can be detected in the HIV test. The only problem is once one turns out negative within the window period especially if tested too early, one has to come back at 3 months post exposure again. To some this maybe scarier but to others it provides a sigh of relief temporarily. For me it is still a win-win scenario as one will be relaxed with HIV test the second time around in case the first test turns out to be negative.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
