How To Prevent OI's

1. Avoid crowded places. One could get tuberculosis, pneumonia or the colds and flu which can weaken more your immune system and trigger the pneumocystis pneumonia already present in our lungs. If a pozzie's CD4 level is very low, try to wear a mask when going out, if comfortable. Disinfect your house or room with alcohol when you have guests. My doctor said to stay 6 feet away from people while the CD4 is still low. Always remember, getting confined is more expensive than preventing these illnesses.
2. Avoid dealing with soil, dirt, raw meat, being scratched my cats, cats litter. A pozzie needs to do this if his CD4 is low to prevent the toxoplasma parasitic infection. Always wash hands. Supplement with hand sanitizers or alcohol.
3.Avoid unprotected sex because this can complicate the treatment of HIV/AIDS. One can get different strains of the HIV virus. One thing good is that according to my doctor, we don't have in the country the HIV strain that is resistant to the medicines. Also, by protected sex, we try to avoid other venereal diseases like gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes and hepa B and C.
4. Be healthy. Help your immune system to be strong by having an active and healthy lifestyle. Exercise or doing any activity can definitely help. Eat the right kinds of food. Eat more fruits. Sleep at least 8 hours a day. Abstain from smoking and drinking alcohol. Also, stay positive. A happy disposition in life makes all of these easy to beat.
