Email 120: Tested 3 Years Ago

Hi Pozzie,

I found your blog early this year but due to my busy schedule at work (im at the point that i almost forgot that im sick), I just had the chance to write you.

I have been tested positive with HIV  in Singapore back in early 2010. The same year I went to go for a second opinion in Thailand and all the same I was positive. Of course, as everyone else, I went into depression and could not accept the fact that I am infected. It took me a while to accept this awful truth while thinking who among those I have encountered gave me this terrible disease.

After 3 months I was able to accept it and was able to open up to my family. I thought as well as my family thought that I'm about to die anytime soon. I never took any medications and I have not been seriously ill except in the middle of 2011 as some warts developed which I had to do a surgical procedure to get removed.

Now my question is/are, since I live abroad (I'm currently in France working) and I don't know where and how to get on with this.. Is there a natural way that I can do so the virus will lessen its effect on my ie getting sick etc?

Your advice will be highly appreciated!

Thank you and more power! God bless!

Hi XXX,

CONTRIBUTOR'S RESPONSE

Thanks for the email and for reading this blog.

The best advice I can give you at this point is to go and see a HIV medical specialist as soon as possible.  You have been HIV+ for over 2 years  now and you need to get your CD4 count checked to determine whether you need to start Anti Retro Viral therapy (ARV) or not.  You also need to be tested for the presence of any other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's).  You have mentioned warts but have not elaborated on them.  It is possible that they were caused by an (STI).

In relation to diet and exercise, which are the best non ARV ways of combating HIV, any change in diet or exercise must be done in concert with your HIV medical specialist.  The use of supplements, if required, can only be determined by this person.  Having said that, I will include 2 links recommended to me by my HIV Medical Specialist Dr Mattana Hanvanich from Bumrungrad International Hospital in Thailand.  The first is the OZ diet constructed by Dr. Mehmet Oz.  The second is a general approach that should be adopted to exercise by HIV+ people.
