Email 277: I Want To Get Well!

Posted by Pozziepinoy on 11:54 PM

Hi Pozzie.

TRANSLATION

I read your story. You shared great courage to you readers. You are very kind.

Up to now, I haven’t received my confirmatory result of my HIV test because I am scared to know that I am infected. I still have a lot of dreams. I still would like to see my nephews and nieces to graduate and take care of my mom and dad until they become old. I also don’t want my family to be embarassed incase I die of HIV. I want them to be proud of me.

I want to get well for my family. They already are burdened with a lot of problems. Everyday I am praying that the result will turn out negative. But when the hospital informed me that they need to confirm the result with DOH, I got scared. I lost my strength. Up to now I still couldn’t sleep.

We are not rich. We belong to the middle class.

You mentioned that the treatment is free in the Philippines. I would like to know where that is and in case how much are the regular fees. How often is the treatment? Is it like getting frequent injections or getting confined in the hospital?I don’t know anything. What I would like is to get better for my family. They need me Pozzie.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi XXX.

Thank you for your email. Thank you for your kind words about the blog.

Let me address your concerns in the order that you asked them.

First about your HIV confirmatory test, I understand what you are feeling. I know the feeling of you being scared of knowing the truth behind the test. It seems that the fear will shatter all your dreams. I understand about your hesitations as you are thinking of your family, your nephew and nieces your mom and your dad. However, there is no other way but to face it. You must go and get the result as soon as it is available. It is only by then that you can move on and for you to know the path that you need to take. You are going to do this because you love yourself and your family.

Second, when it comes to treatment, HIV meds and consultations are free in the different hubs in the country.

Check out this link: HIV/AIDS Treatment Hubs

You can call the hub that is nearest you and you can ask the fees of the laboratory tests that they require. Don't worry, since most of them are government hospitals, the fees are cheaper than that of the private ones.
