Email 609: Private Doctor and ARV Trial Period

Posted by Pozziepinoy on 7:50 AM

hi pozzie,

I am planning to seek the help of private doctor because of proximity reason. Currently I am under the care of good doctors of RITM.  Since i was told that whatever changes in condition or any side effects, i should seek consultation right away. May i ask your opinion regarding this. Secondly, i am on my trial arvs but prior to taking i already experience itchiness, can i take antihistamine.  thank you.

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi there.

Thank you for your email.

You can choose your doctor if your want to outside the hubs. Of course a private doctor will cost you for their consultation fees but if his or her clinic is near your place then that would be a good choice. However, make sure that your new HIV doctor is linked with a hub so that you won't have a hard time with medicines and lab tests later on.

On your second question, since you are on trial ARV's you are not allowed to take anything, not even antihistamine, unless ordered by the HIV doctor. The trial period is a monitoring period for any side effects of the ARV's and any medicine, aside from the ARV's, is forbidden.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
