Email 641: Protecting My Identity

Posted by Pozziepinoy on 9:36 AM

Hi. Just want to ask, if I go to Klinika Bernardo for HI test, is it possible not give personal details, even my true name?

Typical

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi Typical.

Thank you for your email.

The HIV test is a confidential test and would require your real name to be written in the form. However some people are hesitant to put their names there and thus write down other names to protect their identities. There are some pros and con's to this though.

1. Putting your real name helps our government especially the DOH to identity people who
    are positive or not.
2. If you write down your pseudo name and the result comes out as positive, this won't be
honored in the HIV/AIDS treatment hubs. You will also have issues with PhilHealth later
    on.
3. If you write down your pseudo name instead of your real name, and the test result comes out positive, you will be forced to take another HIV test with your real name. This will make the statistics inaccurate because 2 people will be listed in the HIV/AIDS registry instead of one.

If I were you, just write down your real name. YOU are the one being tested, not another person so be responsible. It is a confidential testing anyways.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
