Posted by Pozziepinoy on 9:45 AM

Pozziepinoy,

good day.

ive experienced around 15 days ago some symptoms of hiv like recurring mild fever (every night for 10 days), pink rashes on around my neck and arms, headache, easily get tired and difficult in breathing. i went to a laboratory clinic and i was diagnosed that i am hiv+. i am so scared right now (i am still feeling my career and life is over). the clinic called me up
and took another sample of my blood to be tested for confirmation and the result will be released next week. is it possible for the result to be negative? but i doubt it .

thank you.

regards,
unprecedented

POZZIEPINOY’S RESPONSE

Hi unprecedented.

Thank you for your email.

I am glad that you already took the test. I salute you for having the courage, which some people don't have. I hope that others will follow your example.

If in the rapid test, the result turns out positive, the blood sample will be sent to San Lazaro or RITM for confirmation using the Western Blot test. The result will take  a week or two up to a month to be released, depending on where you took the HIV test.

A lot of people have asked me about the possibility of getting a negative result. Although, in my two years of answering emails, there were only 2 instances wherein there was a false positive result. These were cases of pregnant women and one case of having an antirabies vaccination during the time of the HIV test. However, research have shown that are also some conditions that may produce a false positive HIV test. Examples of these are lyme disease, syphilis and lupus, to name a few.

Now while waiting for your confirmatory, you need to have your symptoms checked by oter specialists. Always remember that treatment of HIV is separate from the treatment of the other infections. Since you are experiencing difficulty of breathing, seek consult with a pulmo doctor fast. Since you have rashes, go to a dermatologist.

I wish you well. No matter what the final result will be, there is a bright future ahead of you. Just don't lose hope and always stay positive.

I hope I was able to answer your concerns. Feel free to email me again if you have other questions.

Stay healthy,
Pozziepinoy
